LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEAS

2011-12-13

The time is nigh approaching when untold hours spent selecting, wrapping, and giving a gift is torn asunder in a five second frenzy of paper shredding and verbal elation.  If there's someone in particular that you're desperately seeking to find the perfect gift for, don't lose heart – there's still plenty of time.

Tech blog Gizmodo has been so kind as to compile a list of shipping deadlines for a number of online retailers for those who procrastinated or may still be undecided on what gift to get.  Amazon.com, for instance, has a December 19th deadline for standard shipping, December 20th for 2-day shipping, and December 21st for next-day shipping.  Barnes & Noble, on the other hand, has deadlines of December 20th for standard shipping and December 21st for its expedited service.

Muddy Colors

Of course, knowing *when* you have to ship something isn't any good if you haven't decided on *what* you're going to gift.  Fortunately, Dan Dos Santos and John Jude Palencar have both compiled a couple of wishlists over at the Muddy Colors blog with Dan handling the artist-side of the wish list, and John Jude stocking the bookshelves with care.

Spectrum Store

Along those lines, we can't help but also mention our own Spectrum Store where more than a few rare items (Spectrum 14 hardcover, anyone?) are waiting to be purchased and shipped off to happy new homes.  All items in the Spectrum Store are mailed via USPS Priority or First-Class Mail which can ship as late as December 20th within the United States and still make it to its destination in time.

Of course, online shopping has one major disadvantage.  Thanks to price-guaranteed, pre-order sales you can pretty much shop nowadays without putting too much thought into it.  Items spontaneously arriving on your doorstep that were ordered months ago have a way of putting a serious dent in your holiday gift ideas list – which probably explains why our collection of socks and neckties grows exponentially towards the end of the year.

Of course, this year is no exception as a few weeks ago we had a copy of Yuko Shimizu's recent monograph dropped off by the Big Brown Truck, and of course its contents are just too good not to share:

Hopefully those you plan on buying gifts for haven't 1-Click'd their way into the same corner we have, and if they did... well... we hope that there may be one or two ideas on this page that they might like and weren't expecting!
