BERKEY TRIBUTE IN PIXAR FILM?

While attending Pixar's WALL•E this weekend, it was an unexpected surprise to see that the design of the spaceship responsible for carting the remnants of humanity across the galaxy and back to Earth referenced the work of John Berkey:

Although absent of the fire elements present in many of his space paintings, The Axiom (and this shot in particular) was very reminiscent of the piece Berkey created which was also used as the cover to National Geographic's Picture Atlas of Our Universe:

Whether intentional or not, it was a pleasant surprise to see Berkey's work referenced in an entirely different medium, and hopefully enough of a connection may be drawn to introduce the work of such a gifted illustrator to a new generation.  You'll even have an opportunity to see how the folks at Pixar figured out how a ship of this design would land on Earth!
