SEE INTO THE FUTURE: The Spectrum 2009 Calendar0000-00-00
As mentioned sometime back we have partnered with Andrews McMeel Publishing to produce a Spectrum 2009 Calendar. Now that the "calendars" issue of Diamond's Previews catalog has appeared with its wide-ranging list of titles coming out in June, we thought we'd weigh in with some details and some images.
The Spectrum calendar will be 12"x17" and wire-bound at the top, allowing it to lay flat and give an unobstructed view of the art. Events of interest are included each month (Book Expo America, Comic-Con International, World Fantasy Con, etc.) along with international holidays and there are short-short bios with photos for each featured artist along with web-links. Included in the calendar are works by Donato Giancola, Brom, Phil Hale, Shaun Tan, Stephan Martiniere, Omar Rayyan, Leo & Diane Dillon, Eric Joyner, Jon Foster, Dan Dos Santos, John Jude Palencar, and Gregory Manchess.
Will this become an annual project or just a onesy? Who knows? How will it sell? We haven't a clue. The one thing we can say is that the Spectrum 2009 Calendar is gorgeous. But... the market is incredibly competitive and it can be difficult to convince stores to give new titles not tied to movies or TV shows a shot. There are only so many spaces available on the display stands and the "selling window" (unlike other products) is very short: for a calendar, it's either a hit or a miss with very little in-between.
So... if you'd like a little bit of Spectrum throughout the year, please pre-order through your favorite comics shop from the Previews catalog or express your interest to you favorite bookseller. And if you're a store owner interested in stocking the calendar, visit Andrews McMeel's website for more information or find a sales rep for the Andrews McMeel titles here.
