SPECTRUM 17 JUDGING – FINISHED!2010-02-27
6:55 AM: It's very, very... verrrrry early for some of us to be up on a weekend, but the room is patiently awaiting the arrival of the artwork. And the rest of us are awaiting the arrival of coffee.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated this time out and there wasn't any snowfall for the jurors to fly through (or for us to drive through early in the morning). It is still bitterly cold outside, but at least things are nice n' comfy inside.
Pictures don't happen to do much justice to the actual size of the room this year. We've shot some video which will hopefully do a much better job of presenting the scale – and keep in mind that all the entries laid out so far are from just half of the eligible categories...
Here's a panning shot of the entire room – this entire area was reset two more times during the day:
10:30 AM: Following a hearty breakfast (and after spending some time to get to know one another), the jurors ventured out into the sea of styrofoam cups to cast their votes for art in the Advertising, Book, Comic, Dimensional, and Editorial categories.
3:35 PM: The categories of Concept Art and a good portion of Unpublished were laid out to be viewed by the jury before everyone took a break for lunch. After everyone had a chance to finish their sensible meals, the group returned to the exhibit hall to consider the entries in the Institutional category along with the remainder of the Unpublished entries.
8:00PM: Whew! It was another long one with everything getting under wraps around 6:00pm or so. The jurors debated the merits of every piece selected for awards consideration, and many good arguments were made by each respective juror as to why a piece should win an award.
