Thank You For Submitting to Spectrum 23!

It's amazing to have such a great community who supports Spectrum year after year. Some people think that Flesk and Spectrum are mega-big companies, but the reality is that we are a handful of people who work tirelessly out of passion and respect for this genre and the artists who bring us their beauty through art with each day.

It continues to be our humble pleasure to be a part of this community.

Over the next week we will be processing all of the submissions that have come in over this last week. We are sending out email confirmations to those who submitted online. Please be patient, since it may take us a little while, but we prefer to work slow to make sure all of the entries are in order and that you have the best chance to be seen by the jury. Details about the Spectrum jury event will come soon. Thank you again!

Spectrum 23 Call for Entries Deadline is January 25th!

The Spectrum 23 Call for Entries Deadline is January 25th. This is an invitation to all professional and student artists, art directors, publishers and artist representatives to submit entries to the 23rd Annual Spectrum International Competition for Fantastic Art. All art works in all mediums embracing the themes of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and the surreal are eligible for this show. Fantastic Art can be subtle or obvious, traditional or off-the-wall, painted, sculpted, done digitally or photographed: there is no unacceptable way to create art and there are no set rules that say one piece qualifies while another does not. Imagination and skill are what matters. Work chosen by the jury will be printed in full color in the Spectrum annual, the peer-selected "best of the year" collection for the fantastic arts.

This year our panel of judges is as incredible as ever: David Palumbo, Cynthia Sheppard. Kirk Thatcher, Charlie Wen, and Terryl Whitlach. Join with us to help celebrate twenty-three years by making this volume the best yet: considering the excellence of the work in the previous twenty-two books, it will be no small task, but we're confident you all can do it.

Announcing New Members To The Spectrum Advisory Board

Director John Fleskes has announced changes to the Spectrum Advisory Board, including the addition of two new members. "One of the qualities that makes Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Art the preeminent annual for the creative community is the desire to continuously improve and look to those who I admire for their advice and guidance," John says. "With that goal in mind I would like to welcome our new Advisory Board members Rebecca Guay and Virginie Ropars, who will help keep the enthusiasm, focus, and love for the artwork championed by Spectrum moving forward in the years ahead."

Rebecca Guay is an award-winning illustrator, gallery artist, and educator; as the founder of the annual workshop The IMC and the online mentoring program SmArt School, Rebecca has had a profound impact on today's fantastic art community.

Virginie Ropars is a highly respected and influential sculptor and educator based in Brittany, France who has been profiled by The Huffington Post and Art Doll Collector magazine among many others. Her work appears in galleries around the world and resides in major collections in the U.S., Europe, and Russia.

Rebecca and Virginie join the current board consisting of Brom, Alice Carter, Mark Chiarello, James Gurney, Charles Kochman and Iain McCaig. Spectrum co-founder and Honorary Lifelong Board Member Cathy Fenner has also agreed to step into a more active role for the 2016 session.
